Nancy Murphy

Nancy Elizabeth (Creasy) Murphy, 88, of Slippery Rock, departed this life to be with Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life, on March 22, 2021.

Nancy was born on June 21, 1932, to Cleaver “Max” Maxwell and Gladys Lorraine Creasy in Aspinwall.

She graduated from Aspinwall High School Class of 1950, and received a scholarship to study elementary education at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 1954.

Nancy was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority there. She went on to earn a master’s degree from Penn State University in 1957. While teaching in Shaker Heights, Ohio, she met the love of her life, John Claire Murphy. Their first date was at a Pitt football game.

Nancy and John were married June 14, 1958, in Aspinwall. They had three daughters who survive them, Clair Jo Anne Knolle, Megan Elizabeth (Kevin) Vance and Beth Ellen (David) Superdock.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Jonathan (Krystal) Vance, Joanna Vance and Jesse (Katie) Vance, Matthew (Allison) Knolle, Joshua Knolle, Sophia (Karla) Knolle-Perez and Renée Knolle, David (Ellen) Superdock, Andrew Superdock and Leanne (Bailey) Hett.

She also delighted in her five great-grandchildren, J.P., Peter, Eli, Elizabeth and Katherine.

Nancy taught in Ohio; Des Moines, Iowa; and Sewickley, Pa., before teaching in the North Allegheny School District from 1974 until 1989.

Nancy and John attended Northmont U.P. Church and, in later years, Mars Alliance Church and Highland Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock.

Nancy was an avid gardener and enjoyed knitting, travel and Steelers football.

She also faithfully attended her husband John’s antique tractor pulls and steam shows.

Most importantly, she passed on her legacy of faith in Christ to her children and grandchildren, and will be sorely missed and dearly remembered by all.
