Police ID Tuesday crash victim

A 77-year-old Butler man was killed in a crash in Butler Township on Tuesday.

Anthony Kovcovsky died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash, which occurred on North Main Street Extension at Evans Road around 3:15 p.m. near Bon Aire shopping plaza.

Deputy Coroner Larry Barr said an autopsy was conducted Wednesday morning, and established that Kovcovsky died of blunt force trauma to the chest.

Butler Township police said Kovcovsky was attempting to make a left turn from Evans Road to head southbound on Route 8, when his vehicle, a Chevrolet Tracker SUV, was hit by a northbound vehicle, a Ram pickup truck, driven by 35-year-old Nikki Burke of Butler.

While the crash is still under investigation, police said preliminary reports indicate that Burke failed to stop for a steady red signal at the intersection.

Kovcovsky was extricated from the SUV by firefighters and taken by Butler Ambulance Service to Butler Memorial Hospital, Mercer Road Fire Chief Kevin Kelly previously said.

Butler County Coroner William Young III reported Tuesday night that Kovcovsky had died at the hospital.

Burke and her passengers were not injured in the crash.
