Preventing foodborne illness in a food establishment is the focus of the ServSafe Training Course to be presented by the Penn State Extension on Oct. 4 and 11 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Comfort Inn, Route 8, Butler.

The ServSafe exam will be given on Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.

The registration fee is $175. Registration is necessary by Oct. 1.

Those who pass the exam at the end of the training receive a certificate from the National Restaurant Association and meet the requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture for food safety training.

ServSafe certification is valid for five years.

The Butler County Farm Bureau will hold its annual fall meeting on Oct. 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Unionville Grange, Benbrook Road.The agenda includes election of directors, approval of policies and committee reports.There will be a drawing for the men's, ladies' and children's baskets. Proceeds benefit the “Ag in the Classroom” program. A drawing will also be held for those in attendance for a 2013 paid membership to the Butler County Farm Bureau and other door prizes.A stuffed chicken dinner will be served. Penn State Extension in Lawrence County will present a three-part, eight-hour workshop series next month on anger management strategies at the Butler County Extension, 101 Motor Pool Way.Participants will learn what triggers anger, how to recognize anger and constructive ways to manage anger.The training also will address the five types of anger: anger at self; others’ anger at us; our anger at others; anger at those who are absent; and abstract anger.Sessions will be held Oct. 11, 18 and 25. The deadline to register is Oct. 4.
