Stanley F. 'Tucho' Kijowski

Stanley Kijowski

Stanley F. “Tucho” Kijowski, 88, of Ford City died Tuesday at the Armstrong County Health Center, Kittanning.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1925, in Ford City, a son of Ignatz and Salameya (Kremplec) Kijowski.

He retired from PPG Industries, Ford City, after 42 years of service as a glass cutter and expeditor.

Stanley was a member of the Christ, Prince of Peace Church of Ford City. He was a member of the Slovak Catholic Union, the Polish Falcons and coached Little League.

Stanley was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He served with various gun units as a truck driver. He drove a 2½ ton truck hauling ammunition, supplies and personnel. He averaged about 25 miles a day including blackout, convoy and field driving. He served in the European Theater for 17 months and in combat as a heavy machine-gunner.

He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, riding his bicycle around Ford City, fishing along the river bank at Rosston, throwing horseshoes, working crossword puzzles and watching the Steelers and Pirates.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Volek) Kijowski, who he married on June 14, 1952; his three sons, Mark “Stan” Kijowski of Ford City, Kevin (Tammy) Kijowski of Kittanning, and Keith (Janet) Kijowski of Butler; his three daughters, Kathleen (Terry) Macurdy of Sarver and twin daughters, Amy Kijowski of Ford City and Beth (Jim) Panchik of Worthington; and his grandchildren, Lucas, Lacey and Landon Kijowski, Andrea Cousins, Emily and Eric Macurdy, and Gretchen, Hannah, Yuri, Nicholas and James Panchik. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Noah Kijowski, and Carly and Maks Cousins; and his sister, Nellie Stephenson of Leechburg.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, Joseph, John and Walter “Doggie” Kijowski; and his three sisters, Ada Gladys, Sophie Morris and Helen Gongola.

Kijowski — The friends of Stanley F. “Tucho” Kijowski, who died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, will be welcomed from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the WELCH FUNERAL HOME, 1032 4th Ave., Ford City. Prayers of transfer will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday at funeral home followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at the Christ, Prince of Peace Church, Ford City, with Father Bryan Summers and Father Raphael Glinkowski, O.S.P., concelebrating.
