Ownership matters
I am a citizen of Butler County and a health care professional who previously worked at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. I’ve had several family members experience the exceptional patient care services of our county-owned skilled nursing facility. I would like to provide some personal insight into the issue.
The differences in quality of care between private and publicly owned nursing homes are too numerous to mention but very distinguishable based on my experiences working at 11 skilled facilities across four states. If anything positive has come out of this ongoing experience, it is the amazing camaraderie and support demonstrated by citizens of Butler County as they stand behind the residents and staff of Sunnyview as they continue to fight to save our community home.
As an occupational therapist who continues to be a direct patient care provider, I can tell you that in the face of illness, diagnosis and an uncertain medical future, my patients frequently express their regrets in life over decisions made, actions taken or missed opportunities.
Commissioners Dale Pinkerton and William McCarrier currently demonstrate an unconcerned attitude toward Sunnyview staff, residents of the home and the segment of the community of Butler opposing this sale.
The Republican commissioners’ actions, words and behaviors are not representing the best interests of the residents, patients and staff, present and future, of Sunnyview, nor the majority of the citizens of this county. Someday they will look back and express many regrets over what once was to be.
