Freeport wins 1st lacrosse playoff tilt

Braith Kiser, Brennon Riley and Garret Schaffhauser each contributed five goals as Freeport's boys lacrosse team won its first-ever playoff game, 22-4 against visiting Seton-La Salle in a WPIAL Class 2A first-round meeting Tuesday night.

Sean Fennel added four scores and Gabe Brunk scored twice.

Kiser tallied seven assists while Greg Smith and Nick Mattivi combined for the win in net.

The Yellowjackets will travel to Mars for a quarterfinal showdown on Thursday.

Softball

Peters Township plated seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead for good in a wild, 16-13 WPIAL Class 6A first-round win over Seneca Valley at West Allegheny High School.

Madi Morgan hit two home runs in the game for the Indians, the second one leading off the seventh frame.

Karli Hacker had four hits for SV, including a home run, and drove in five runs. Mandy Magill added four base hits in defeat.

Boys Volleyball

Seneca Valley advanced to the WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinals with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Latrobe.

The Raiders won by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-17.

Kyle Martini had 14 kills and Dan DeGraaf contributed 10 kills.

The Raiders will face Penn-Trafford at Bethel Park High School on Thursday.

Girls Lacrosse

Seneca Valley defeated Bethel Park, 14-5, in a WPIAL Class 3A first-round game.

The Raiders advance to face host Mt. Lebanon on Thursday.
