PIAA baseball, softball field set
Four Butler County teams will begin play in the state baseball and softball playoffs on Monday.
Baseball
Class 4A: Slippery Rock (20-2) will face Hopewell (14-10) at 6 p.m. at Slippery Rock University’s Critchfield Park.
Class 5A: Mars (14-7) will meet Cedar Cliff (19-5) at 4 p.m. at Northern York High School.
Softball
Class 2A: Moniteau (21-0) will battle Chartiers-Houston (16-4) at 4 p.m. at Clarion-Limestone High School.
Class 3A: Karns City (10-4) will face Deer Lakes (15-2) at 2 p.m. at Clarion-Limestone High School.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior defensive end Marcus Martin has been named first team Preseason All-American by Lindy’s Sports.
Martin is the only PSAC player named to the first team.
The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Martin is the all-time SRU and PSAC career sack and tackles for loss leader. He is six sacks shy of the Division II career record and 11 tackles for loss shy of the Division II mark.
