Beating the champs

Butler's Emily Feczko eyes a putt on the No. 2 green during the Golden Tornado's girls golf win Thursday over Seneca Valley at Hiland Golf Course.

Spencer Posey scored both goals for Mars and Ryan Gralish had an assist as the Planets' boys soccer team defeated defending WPIAL and PIAA champion Hampton 2-1 Thursday night.

The Talbots lost just one game last season on the way to the state title.

Garrett Gabriel had a strong game in net to earn the win.

Knoch 4, Freeport 0 — Alex Slomer scored twice for the Knights (3-0), while James Conklin and Josh Burd both scored once.Burd and Joe McDaniel both had an assist and Andy Fritz had the shutout in net.

Slippery Rock 5, Wilmington 1 — Braden Sloan scored three goals as the Rockets routed the Greyhounds.Mike Stutz assisted on all three of Sloan's goals.Brock Sloan and Mark Cessar also found the net for Slippery Rock (4-0), which got 12 saves from goalkeeper Joe Jioia.

Karns City 12, Clarion-Limestone 0 — Evan McGarvey tallied a hat trick and Anthony Easley dished out four assists to lead the Gremlins.Kaden Young scored twice and Tyler Pollack netted his first two career goals. Justin Ryan found the back of the net, as well, while goalkeeper David Olscak earned the shutoutAustin Murray, Jacob Stewart, Tyler Michael and Treh Gilot all recorded the first goals of their career.
