The 2012 Western Pennsylvania Beekeeping Seminar will be conducted on Feb. 17 and 18 at the Four Points by Sheraton Pittsburgh North in Mars.

The evening program on Feb. 17 will run from 7 to 9 p.m., and the Feb. 18 program will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The seminar is sponsored by Penn State Extension, the Pennsylvania State Beekeepers Association and the beekeeping organizations of Western Pennsylvania.

The cost is $50 for a full registrant and $30 for an accompanying guest or child 18 and younger. The cost includes lunch and refreshments, but only those registered at the $50 level will receive a seminar packet. Paid registration is required by Feb. 10.

VOLANT, Mercer County — Deerfield Farms Service is hosting two meetings on combating pests in corn and soybeans.Area farmers are invited to attend pesticide updates at 1 p.m. Feb. 28 and 9:30 a.m. March 3 at 193 Black Road in Volant.Representatives of Dupont and Pioneer will discuss insect control, and a Deerfield agronomist will be on hand to help discuss pesticide options.Those in attendance can earn two credits of core and two credits of category 01 toward updating a private or commercial pesticide applicator's license.The meetings are free to attend, but interested parties are asked to register by calling Deerfield at 724-533-8004.
