The Allegheny Health Network continues to roll out cancer centers with a new facility in Beaver County.

The new AHN Cancer Institute officially debuted with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday at 81 Wagner Road in Center Township, Beaver County, behind the Beaver Valley Mall.

Stephanie Waite, an AHN spokeswoman, said the Beaver County location could draw some patients from Butler County to its doors. She said those who live in the southern part of the county, such as Cranberry Township, could find the Beaver location more convenient with little trade-off from the Butler center.

“Depending on where they live in Butler County, it may be closer than the Butler County facility,” Waite said. “It is virtually the same facility like the one we opened in Butler.”

Waite said the Beaver branch takes the same insurance coverage, has the same layout and the same level of care.

“It's a model that's working well for us, so we're sticking with it,” Waite said.

This is the third center AHN has developed in southwestern Pennsylvania since the start of 2019. In addition to Beaver's center, the Monroeville location opened in February and the Butler one in March. The center is part of a $300 million commitment by Highmark Health and AHN to improve and expand access to cancer care in Western Pennsylvania.Dr. David Parda, chair of the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute, said the company is trying to make its patients more comfortable. He said cancer is one of the toughest diseases to fight and demands a lot of support.“They can be closer to their support centers and have to spend a lot of time outside their community,” Parda said. “The whole point is to bring that to the patient and bring a whole lot of new technologies and innovations.”
