Rock hurlers win twice

Four Slippery Rock University softball pitchers combined to allow only two hits in shutout victories Wednesday in Savannah, Ga.

Shauna Walker and Erin Bukvic teamed up for a one-hitter in a 9-0 triumph over Chestnut Hill while Lisa Getgen and Shaylee Ianno recorded a one-hitter in a 6-0 win over Edward Waters.

Knoch graduate Kirsten Brant had two hits and three RBI in the first game. She tallied three hits and a run scored in the nightcap. Courtney Vincent had five hits in the two games as well.

SRU dropped both games of a doubleheader Tuesday against Findlay (Ohio), losing 8-5 and 4-1.

All of these games were part of the Savannah College of Art and Design's Smash Hit Spring Break Tournament in Georgia.

Sheree Horvath and Vincent paced The Rock in the first game with two hits and one RBI each. Jessica Kortz added a pair of hits.

Brant had a hit and an RBI as well. SRU stranded 11 runners and Getgen took the loss on the mound.

Lauren Orban tossed a three-hitter at The Rock in the second game, with Brant getting two of the hits. Walker took the loss on the mound.

Women's Lacrosse

SRU dropped a 20-4 decision to defending national champion West Chester Wednesday. Freshman Amy Halls scored all four of The Rock's goals.

The Rock dropped its season opener to Notre Dame (Ohio) College, 11-6, in Hilton Head, S.C., Tuesday

Freshman Casey Quinn paced SRU with three goals in her first collegiate game. Halls, Alexis Slutsky and Katie Roof also scored.

Goalkeeper Ashley Winkelspecht made 16 saves in a losing cause.
