IRVING, Texas — Dallas Mavericks guard DeShawn Stevenson was arrested for public intoxication.

Police said Stevenson was arrested Tuesday night after reports of an intoxicated person walking through the grounds of an apartment complex. Police added that Stevenson didn't know where he was and he was arrested after field sobriety tests.

Stevenson was released from jail Wednesday morning after posting bail. Mavericks spokeswoman Sarah Melton said the team had no comment on the arrest.

Stevenson will be a free agent this summer.

SEATTLE — The Los Angeles Angels have given up on struggling left-hander Scott Kazmir, releasing the once promising starter on Wednesday.Kazmir was given his release as the Angels closed out a three-game series in Seattle. Once considered among the most promising young starters in baseball, and a two-time All-Star with Tampa Bay, Kazmir has seen a rapid descent since being acquired by the Angels in August 2009.

EASTBOURNE, England — Serena Williams' comeback tournament at Eastbourne ended in the second round Wednesday with a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 loss to top-seeded Vera Zvonareva.Zvonareva came through a tense match in 3 hours, 12 minutes for only her second win in eight matches against the 13-time Grand Slam champion.The No. 3-ranked Russian avenged her 6-3, 6-2 loss in the 2010 Wimbledon final, which turned out to be Williams' last match for almost a year. Williams stepped on broken glass at a restaurant in July and needed two foot operations. She later developed blood clots on her lungs.

GREENSBURG — Bridget Merten of Saxonburg fired a 75 to tie Lauren Waller of Canonsburg, but Merten captured the third playoff hole to claim first place in the King's Restaurants Junior Golf Tournament Wednesday at Valley Green Golf and Country Club.

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — Marissa DeCola of Center Township carded a three-day total of 234 to finish in a fifth-place tie out of 21 girls at the AGJA Junior Tournament at Quad Cities-Short Hills Country Club last week.DeCola’s rounds of 79, 79 and 76 left her 12 strokes behind the champion, who hails from Kentucky.DeCola also competed in a USGA Junior Qualifier at Battle Ground (Ind.) Golf Club Tuesday, where she fired a 77 to put her in fourth place and grab one of the five spots that will move on to the U.S. Junior Girls Championship, which will be held July 18-23 at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois
