MRSA case closes BC3 main campus until Thursday
Butler County Community College is closed through Wednesday because of a single case of infectious MRSA.
The college late Tuesday sent a notice to staff and students announcing
the main campus will be closed Tuesday night and all day Wednesday and
reopen Thursday.
It said a case of MRSA was found in the field house.
MRSA, methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, is a form of
bacterial infection that is resistant to numerous antibiotics, thus
making it challenging to treat the infection.
Often referred to as a superbug, MRSA infection may start as a minor
skin sore, pimple or boil, before becoming serious, and potentially harmful.
The other campuses of BC3 remain open Tuesday night and Wednesday.
