The Rock sweeps pair from Gannon
Grove City HighSchool graduate Billy Herman had a double and a single in the first game and Phil Butch drove in the game-winning runs with a double in the bottom of the seventh inning in the second game as the SlipperyRock University baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Gannon, 8-1 and 6-5, at Jack Critchfield Park Thursday.
Herman, a freshman second baseman, entered the game hitting .328 this season.
Junior designated hitter Brad Wilson drove in three runs in Game 1.
Mars graduate Josh Rape, making only his second collegiate start, picked up the win in the first game, scattering six hits while striking out seven in the complete-game victory.
Butch drove in Don Ehrenberg and J.D. Lowry with his double into the left-center field gap.
The Rock (17-8) also got a solo home run in the second game from Dave Gonos to tie the score at 4 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Tom Turnbull picked up the win in relief for SRU.
