Rock rolls to 11-1 win

Freshman second baseman and Grove City HighSchool graduate Billy Herman had four hits, including a two-run home run as the Slippery Rock University baseball team rolled to an 11-1 win over Millersville in Fort Myers, Fla., over the weekend.

The Rock (9-5) had 21 hits in the victory.

Todd Schickling had three hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs. Rich Michalek added three hits and a RBI and Phil Butch also had three hits for The Rock.

The run support was plenty for starting pitcher Tom Turnbull, who cruised through his five innings of work, surrendering just one run on three hits while striking out three.

SlipperyRock HighSchool graduate Mike DeCola pitched a scoreless seventh inning for SRU, which ended its spring trip by winning six of its last seven games.

The Rock is scheduled to open its home schedule Tuesday at Critchfield Park in a doubleheader against Pitt-Johnstown.
