Man nabbed in online sex sting

Police allege he intended to meet 'girl' for sex

CRANBERRY TWP — An Allegheny County truck driver is accused of soliciting sex on the Internet from an agent with the state attorney general's office posing as a teenage girl.

Authorities said Daniel Eric Henshawe, 40, of Monroeville engaged in nearly 100 online sexually explicit chats with the "girl" dating back to late 2007.

The defendant was arrested Wednesday after driving his motorcycle to Cranberry, where he expected to meet the child for a sexual encounter, according to court documents.

Senior District Judge Joseph O'Donnell arraigned the suspect on multiple felony counts of unlawful contact with a minor as well as criminal use of a communication facility.

Henshawe, who is free on $25,000 bail, faces a preliminary hearing Sept. 4. The Butler Eagle could not reach him for comment.

Investigators said Henshawe initially contacted the undercover agent in December 2007. He identified himself by first name, age and occupation, and acknowledged he was married.

Within the week, following more chats, the defendant allegedly expressed an interest in having sex with the girl.

Later, when the child reminded him she was 13 years old, Henshawe allegedly replied, "age is just a number."

The chats continued and agents, meanwhile, were busy tracing the suspect's Internet provider address information and instant messenger service account.

On Aug. 11, 2008, following a 2½ -month break in online chats, Henshawe contacted the girl. Because of the time frame, both the defendant and the profile were a year older.

"I mean," Henshawe texted the girl, according documents said, "its really wrong for me 2 think about u like that...im 39 & your 14..."

By the end of the same chat, however, he again inquired, "but u do want to have sex with me??"

There would be more conversations, agents said, that continued into 2009. On Tuesday, agents said Henshawe and the supposed girl arranged a meeting for the next day.

On Wednesday morning, Henshawe rode his blue and white Yamaha cycle to the pre-arranged location, where he was nabbed by awaiting agents and Cranberry police officers.
