Drug bust nabs 2 Butler men

But not the 2 police sought

Butler police did not leave empty handed Tuesday after going to a West Jefferson home looking for two men wanted on felony drug warrants.

Officers nabbed two people — just not the pair they were seeking.

Arrested were Stephanee Feltmate, 27, and Oscar Cosme Jr., 33, both of Butler. Police said they caught the two red handed making a drug deal on North Jackson Street.

Officers initially headed around 10 a.m. to a suspected drug house in the 100 block of West Jefferson Street with warrants for a pair of alleged dealers, Kyle S. Bouie, 22, of Philadelphia and Charles Griffin, 38, of Pittsburgh.

The Butler County Drug Task Force recently obtained the warrants that charged both men with drug dealing in Butler earlier this year.

Neither Bouie nor Griffin were at the apartment, police said. But a nearby business owner saw the officers and told them about frequent drug trafficking on Jackson Street behind his store.

Detective Sgt. John Johnson decided to conduct some impromptu surveillance using the second-floor of the business owner’s store as the lookout, according to court documents.

Johnson had to wait only five minutes before his surveillance proved beneficial.

He said a man, later identified as Cosme, rode up on a bike and met with a woman, later identified as Feltmate.

The two engaged in a hand-to-hand deal, documents said, with Cosme paying Feltmate $40 for four bags of suspected heroin.

Officers were immediately notified and arrested the suspects.

Police said they caught Cosme with the four bags and six empty stamp bags of heroin. Additionally, he had a syringe in one of his pockets.

Investigators later looked at Feltmate’s cell phone, a police affidavit said, which showed “multiple text messages that spoke to drug activity and drug dealing.”

Feltmate was arraigned on charges of felony and misdemeanor drug possession, and placed in the Butler County Prison. She was released Wednesday after posting $50,000 bail.

Police said Cosme, who admitted to the drug deal with Feltmate, is charged with misdemeanor counts of possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
