Charles Davis recently graduated from basic training at Parris Island, S.C.Davis, a 2003 graduate of Butler High School, is the son of Charles and Cindy Davis of Chicora.While at basic training, he achieved qualification as an expert with the M-162 rifle and earned a tan belt in martial arts.He will attend the Marine Corps School of Infantry, Camp Lejeune, N.C.———

Marine Corps Pvt. <b>Eric Eisenreich</b>, son of Mary Isles of Mars and James Eisenreich of Latrobe, recently graduated from the Cannon Crewman Course while assigned with Marine Detachment, U.S. Army Field Artillery School, Fort Sill, Okla.Eisenreich is a 2004 graduate of Mars High School.

The Governor's Veterans' Outreach center recently released the following information.Veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan should contact the GVO center for assistance with any problems due to your service.Vietnam Veterans who served in that country and now have Type II diabetes may be entitled to VA compensation.The Defense Department is accepting applications from those who honorably served during the Cold War, Sept. 2, 1945 to Dec. 26, 1991 for a Cold War Recognition Certificate.War-era veterans and widows of war-era veterans who reside in nursing homes or who are house bound may be entitled to benefits through the VA to assist with cost of care.Ex-prisoners of war who have had a stroke or heart attack, or the widows of ex-POWs who have died of a stroke or heart attack, may be entitled to benefits.Combat Action Ribbon veterans who served in the Navy and Marine Core for the periods after Dec. 6, 1941 to March 1, 1961, may be entitled to a combat action ribbon.The Korean Service Medal is now available for veterans serving in the Korean War between June 25, 1950 and July 27, 1953.Guardsman and reservists who have recently been demobilized may be entitled to benefits from the veterans administration.Veterans and widows of veterans concerned about their benefits or what you might have been told by the VA, should contact the GVO center.For information on the above programs and benefits, contact the GVO center at 800-442-6815 or 724-837-7988.
