Police search for woman accused of assault

Butler police are seeking a Slippery Rock Township woman who is accused of forcing her way into a home and attacking another woman.

Kelly L. Gray, 42, is wanted on an arrest warrant for burglary and simple assault.

The suspected blitz attack Sunday night left the victim, 48-year-old Aseneth Doctor, with numerous injuries, none believed serious, police said.

Doctor told police she was home about 10:30 p.m. when she heard a knock at the door. She answered the knock and found the suspect standing on the other side of the screen door.

The defendant opened the door and “charged in,” according to court documents. The two women apparently know each other, police said.

Gray immediately began pummeling Doctor, who was punched about the head and face.

“Gray then placed her hands around Doctor's neck and squeezed,” according to a police affidavit. The victim told police that she was unable to breathe and feared for her life.

She eventually was able to get the suspect's hands off her neck and cried out for her father. She also advised Gray that she was calling police. The defendant fled.

A motive for the crime was not immediately clear, Butler Deputy Police Chief David Adam said this morning.

Officers described Doctor's injuries as two small cuts on the left side of her face and head, redness and swelling on her left cheek bone and lower lip, and scratches around her neck and throat.

Police said the victim later drove herself to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment.
