The unofficial results for Butler County as of Tuesday night for the U.S. congressional races in the 15th,16th, and 17th districts.

Election results are unofficial and do not include all mail-in ballots. The results were gathered as of midnight Tuesday in contested races and are incomplete. Many of the 31,000 mail-in ballots received are still being counted.

Republican Glenn GT Thompson won another two-year term representing the 15th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s election that do not include a count of mail-in ballots.Thompson, of Centre County, who has served in Congress since 2009, defeated Democratic challenger Robert Williams of Indiana by a wide margin.The 15th District extends into 14 counties, including all, most or part of Armstrong, Cambria, Cameron, Centre, Clarion, Clearfield, Elk, Forest, Indiana, Jefferson, McKean, Venango, Warren and eastern Butler counties.In Butler County, Thompson won in every borough and township in the district in a 12,566-2,167 vote.

The unofficial election returns from polling sites in the 16th Congressional District show incumbent Republican Mike Kelly handily beating newcomer Kristy Gnibus, a Democrat from Erie, as of 11 p.m. Tuesday.The returns did not include the mail-in ballot returns from many counties, including Butler County’s more than 31,000 mail-in ballots.The 16th Congressional District encompasses the western half of Butler County and all of Mercer, Lawrence, Crawford and Erie counties.Kelly beat Gnibus 79% to 21% in Butler County and even succeeded in Gnibus’ home county, with Kelly earning 59% of the votes to Gnibus’ 41%.In Mercer County, Kelly beat Gnibus 74% to 26%. In Lawrence County, Kelly had 13,893 votes at 11 p.m. to Gnibus’ 11,550.Kelly took Crawford County by earning 76% of the votes to Gnibus’ 24%.

Incomplete results as of midnight Tuesday indicated Republican Sean Parnell may have won the District 17 congressional seat from under incumbent Democrat Conor Lamb, D-17, in Butler County.Preliminary reports from the nine Cranberry Township precincts falling in District 17 suggest Lamb lost at the polls by a margin of over 2,900 votes.Lamb secured 1,709 votes in Cranberry Township Tuesday, while Parnell secured 4,619.Though Lamb appears to have won the majority of votes in Allegheny County, Parnell seems to have dominated in Beaver County enough to give him an edge on the District 17 seat.The results will be clearer in coming days, as Butler County’s poll results don’t include mail-in, absentee, military, write-in or provisional ballots.
