$2M granted to PA senior centers

Governor Tom Wolf has announced $2 million in grants will be given to 400 area Agency on Aging affiliated senior centers and 99 satellite centers in Pennsylvania, and Butler County is among them.

The county received $33,264 to use in its seven senior centers, according to Beth Herold, director of the county’s Agency on Aging.

“We’re starting to talk about what we’ll use the funds for,” Herold said.

According to a state press release, senior centers have to use funds for COVID-19 mitigation, capital improvements or renovations, technology, nutrition and marketing outreach by June 30, 2023.

The Pennsylvania Department of Aging has deviated from the traditional competitive grant process to offer the funds to senior and satellite centers struggling because of the pandemic.
