Small plane slides off runway near Pittsburgh
WEST MIFFLIN — A small plane slid off the runway and caught fire today at a county airport near Pittsburgh, but police and emergency dispatchers said nobody was hurt.
Allegheny County 911 dispatchers said the call came in from the Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin at 12:36 p.m. West Mifflin is a few miles east of Pittsburgh along the Monongahela River.
County dispatchers and West Mifflin police confirmed the plane caught fire, but said it was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported.
It was not immediately clear whether the incident happened during a takeoff or landing, or during some other kind of maneuvering.
Airport officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
