OSHA, police investigating fatal accident at paving site
JEFFERSON TWP — Both Pennsylvania State Police and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration are conducting separate investigations into the accident that killed a Franklin Township man Tuesday morning.
OSHA declined to comment, saying it has six months to complete an investigation.
Butler County Chief Deputy Coroner John Hanovik pronounced Donald R. Moyer II, 51, dead at the scene at the intersection of Great Belt and Becker roads.
Moyer was working on a paving job for Wiest Asphalt Products & Paving when a dump truck driven by a co-worker accidentally backed over him around 7:30 a.m., according to authorities.
Wiest was contracted by the township to pave both roads.
Joseph Wiest, company owner, declined to speak specifically about how the accident occurred, citing the ongoing investigations.
Hanovik said the cause of death is massive trauma to the head and chest.
