Virginia Mae 'Rusty' Corbett Fair

Virginia Mae "Rusty" Corbett Fair, 84, of Garden Avenue, Grove City, formerly of Petrolia, went to be with her Lord at 9:45 p.m. Thursday at Avalon Springs Care Facility in Mercer following a courageous battle with failing health.

She was born in Karns City on Aug. 16, 1925, and was a daughter of the late Roy E. Sherwin and Amelia Fuchs Sherwin.

She was a member of the Fairview United Presbyterian Church when living in Petrolia and was a member of the East Main Presbyterian Church in Grove City after moving there. She was a member the Ladies Bible Study group at East Main.

She graduated from the Karns City High School with the class of 1943 and played guard on the girls high school basketball team.

She attended the Butler Hospital School of Nursing and then worked as a medical assistant in the medical office of Dr. Merle Horner in Petrolia.

She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and family and had great sewing and cooking skills.

She married Franklin J. "Frank" Corbett April 29, 1946, in Nectarine and he preceded her in death on May 24, 1991. She then married James J. "Jim" Fair on Sept. 11, 1999, and he survives along with two sons, Franklin J. "Jim" Corbett and his wife, Jan, of Grove City and Richard A. "Rick" Corbett and his wife, Sue, of Bluffton, S.C.; four daughters, Rita E. Hillwig and her husband, Dennis, of Chambersburg, Lana K. Adams Tidwell of Butler, Diane M. Standish and her husband, Thomas, of Emlenton and Dawn E. Helfrich and her husband, Richard, of Karns City; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by two brothers, Donald Sherwin and his wife, Lorraine, of Cabot and William "Bill" Sherwin and his wife, Genevieve, of Bruin; one sister Frances Nichol and her husband, Herbert "Skip," of Karns City; two stepdaughters, Jill Southworth and her husband, Larry, of Charlotte, N.C., and Ginger Flaniken and her husband, Michael, of Houston, Texas; and one stepson, John R. "Jack" fair and his friend, Judi, of Hudson, Fla., as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

<B>Corbett Fair </B>— A reception for friends of Virginia Mae "Rusty" Corbett Fair, who died Thursday, March 25, 2010, will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 2 at the East Main Presbyterian Church in Grove City and from 10 to 11 a.m. April 3 at Fairview United Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. April 3 at Fairview United Presbyterian with the Rev. William "Bill" Hoffman, pastor of the East Main Presbyterian Church, officiating along with the Rev. Richard F. Rowe, retired Presbyterian pastor. Private interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.Arrangements are being handled by <B>Richard D.
