Graduation is dream come true for Seneca seniors

JACKSON TWP — “It’s all like a dream.”

That’s what Seneca Valley High School senior-turned-graduate Luke Cisar had to say about his four years attending high school.

For the 559 students who graduated Friday evening, the dream of high school has made way for future dreams to be made.

“The future is bright for everyone,” Cisar said. “This is it. Enjoy it while it lasts.”

But the students did face one last challenge Friday night before turning their tassels to the left side of their caps — the fickle weather.

Volunteers supplied students with cups of water to combat the heat and humidity with temperatures reaching the upper 80s.

That changed drastically about halfway into the ceremony. Cloud coverage cooled the area, but also brought rain which drew louder responses from family members and friends watching from the bleachers.

The graduation programs they used to cool themselves down now were used to shield themselves from the rain.

There was one noticeable absence at the ceremony, valedictorian Mike Kolor.

Kolor was living out his dream as he competed in the PIAA state Track and Field Championships in Shippensburg. He qualified for Saturday’s event.

Class salutatorian Siona Sharma expressed her dream of helping people and touching lives.

“That’s all I want to do at the end of the day I think,” said Sharma, who will attend Georgetown University to study health care management and policy.

Julia Scanlon also was be a speaker.

“I want to inspire students just as I’ve been inspired here,” she said.

Scanlon, who will attend Brigham Young University to pursue a degree in music education, was involved in the school bands.
