The Rev. Bernard P. Shulik, 64, of St. John Vianney Manor, Pittsburgh, originally from Butler, died Wednesday morning at the Vincentian Home in North Hills.

He was a Roman Catholic priest in the Diocese of Pittsburgh for 38 years.

He was a graduate Our Lady of Lourdes High School and Seminary in Cassadaga, N.Y., Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and St. Mary University in Baltimore, Md. He was ordained at the St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh by Bishop Vincent M. Leonard on May 4, 1974.

He served as pastor of the St. Joseph Parish in Clairton, as education chaplain at Bishop Boyle High School, as pastor of St. Clare of Assisi Parish and then St. Anthony Parish, both in Clairton, and his final appointment was as chaplain for the Felician Sisters Motherhouse in Coraopolis.

He was born in Butler, Feb. 7, 1948, a son of the late William P. and Margaret Zavacky Shulik.

Father Bernie was an avid snow skier, who had traveled the United States and Europe to ski. He enjoyed music and playing the piano, and had owned two St. Bernard dogs throughout the years and had great affection for them.

He is survived by two brothers and their spouses, William and Karen Shulik in Bridgeville and David and Mary Shulik of Clark; two nephews; three nieces; three great-nephews; and a great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his brother, James.

SHULIK — Friends of the Rev. Bernard P. Shulik, who died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, will be received at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the St. Paul Cathedral, 108 N. Dithridge St., Pittsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Paul Cathedral. Interment will be in the priest’s plot of Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh.

A vigil prayer service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
