Insect kiosk honors late Summit Twp. boy
SUMMIT TWP — An insect identification kiosk has been installed along the Butler-Freeport Community Trail at the Dittmer Road trailhead in memory of a bug-loving boy whose life was cut short in an accident.
Actual insects are set in resin on the kiosk, which includes an identification key.
The kiosk is near a memorial bench at the trailhead.
Both the bench and kiosk memorialize Mark Fike, an 11-year-old Summit Township Elementary student who was struck and killed in January near his home.
Mark loved creepy crawlies of all kinds and frequently caught insects to study them.
The kiosk was made possible by TruCommerce of Cranberry Township and Signs by Rick.
