Man ejected from UTV after crash on Route 68, helicopter called to scene
OAKLAND TWP — A utility terrain vehicle crash around 9:50 a.m. Wednesday and sent a man by helicopter to the hospital and reduced Route 68 a half a mile west of Bonniebrook Road to one lane. The road reopened just after 11 a.m.
Authorities said a 32-year-old man was driving alone in a UTV west on Route 68, when he crashed into a guard rail.
Ken Blatt, Oneida Valley assistant fire chief, said the crash ejected the man from the vehicle's rear about 20 to 25 feet over the guard rail and down an embankment on the other side.
Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Company and an emergency helicopter were called to the scene.
Firefighters used a Stoke's basket and brought the victim to the road, where he was loaded into an East Butler Ambulance.
Emergency crews said the helicopter was believed to be landing at the closed Oakland Elementary School.
Authorities said the man was conscious and alert, but he had head and back injuries.
State police were on the scene investigating.
The driver told emergency crews he had been fishing nearby and was headed home.
