Nellie Musko

Nellie Musko, 96, of Butler passed away Thursday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she has been residing for the past two years. Before that, she lived at her home in Highfield while attending the Life Butler County Program for several years. She was a lifelong resident of Butler, living in the Highfield area.

She was born Sept. 29, 1918, in Lyndora to the late Wasil and Sophie Nanchuk.

Nellie worked at the Spade Shirt Factory in Butler before marrying her late husband, Paul Musko, who passed away in September 2004. They were married for 61 years.

Nellie was a full-time homemaker and together with her husband they raised five boys. The boys and their wives are: Richard Musko and his wife, Linda, Kenneth Musko and his wife, Sandy, Daniel Musko and his wife, Cindy, George Musko and his wife, Karen, all of Butler, and Thomas Musko, who lives in Tampa, Fla.

Nellie also is survived by 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her Godchild, Elaine Ondo Kowalik in California. Mrs. Musko was the remaining Nanchuk sibling of one brother and five sisters.

From birth, she was a lifetime member of St. Andrew Orthodox Greek Catholic Church in Lyndora. As a member of the Sisterhood of the Altar, she participated in bake sales and making perogies to raise church funds. She also belonged to several extension clubs over the years and was a former member of Highfield Community Center women's auxiliary.

Best known for her cookie baking, anyone who came to visit her left with a bag of her array of cookies. Her specialty was making pizzelles.

MUSKO — Visitation for Nellie Musko, who died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, will be at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.The funeral service will take place at St. Andrew Orthodox Church, 201 Penn Ave., Lyndora at 11 a.m. Tuesday and will be followed by a private burial service at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Wargo, pastor, will officiate the service.A Parastas service will take place at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Lifesteps Family Caring Fund, 383 New Castle Road, Butler PA 16001. Appropriate confidential card recognition to the family and the donor will be made by Lifesteps.
