Ruth H. Holmes, 90, of Concordia at the Orchard, Butler, formerly of Westwood Manor, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born April 20, 1919, in Renfrew, she was the daughter of the late James H. Reed and Sara Nicklas Reed.

Mrs. Holmes was married in 1935 to Willard H. Holmes, who passed away on May 8.

A homemaker, Mrs. Holmes was a member of the Fenelton United Methodist Church, where she was a former choir member and treasurer of the Missionary Society for many years.

She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mrs. Holmes is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Betty J. Cumberland and Mrs. Howard (Gladys R.) Graham, both of Butler, and Mrs. Joseph (Debra L.) Simco of Bellefonte; five grandchildren, Jacquelyn Pietrowski and her husband, Daniel; Laura Nichol and her husband, Daniel; Jeffrey Cumberland and his wife, Susan; Sherry Collins and her husband, Stephen; and Michelle Gladd and her husband, Rick; 13 great-grandchildren, and a great great-grandson. Also surviving are three sisters, Esther Miller, Jean Boyd, and Jane Stephens and her husband, Robert; a brother, James Reed; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by an infant son, and her son-in-law, David C. Cumberland, who died June 5.

<B>HOLMES</B> — Friends of Ruth H. Holmes, who died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor David Maitland of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.Memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, 3500 Brooktree Road, Suite 320, Wexford, PA 15090.
