Willard H. Holmes, 95, of Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Westwood Manor, died at 9:20 a.m. Friday at Sunnyview.

Born July 13, 1913, in Fenelton, he was the son of the late Wallace Holmes and the late Ella Fennell Holmes.

Mr. Holmes was a substation operator for Armco Steel. He was a life member and the oldest living member of the Fenelton United Methodist Church.

He was a former member of the Happy Hunter Sportsman Club of Fenelton. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mr. Holmes enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an alumni of the Butler High School class of 1931.

Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Ruth Reed Holmes, who he married in 1935; three daughters, Mrs. David (Betty J.) Cumberland and Mrs. Howard (Gladys R.) Graham, both of Butler, and Mrs. Joseph (Debra L.) Simco of Bellefonte; five grandchildren, Jacquelyn Pietrowski and her husband, Daniel, Laura Nichol and her husband, Daniel, Jeffrey Cumberland and his wife, Susan, Sherry Collins and her husband, Stephen, and Michelle Gladd and her husband, Rick; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by an infant son, three brothers and a sister.

<B>HOLMES — </B>Friends of Willard H. Holmes, who died Friday, May 8, 2009, will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the<B> THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, </B>124 E. North St., Butler. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Maitland of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Butler County Memorial Park.Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Program of the VNA of Western Pennsylvania, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.
