SRU women fall

at Edinboro, 71-55

EDINBORO — Playing its first game in 14 days, the Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team dropped a 71-55 decision Saturday at Edinboro.

The Rock (10-4, 5-3) had its four-game winning streak snapped. Bella Long scored 11 points for SRU, which played without standout center Jamiyah Johnson. Kelly McKnight scored nine points in replacing Johnson. Bella Burrelli led Edinboro with 18 points.

SRU plays Wednesday at Millersville.

Butler grad Ledford

shines for GCC

GROVE CITY — Butler graduate and junior Grove City College swimmer Rachel Ledford won the 200-meter backstroke for the Wolverines Saturday against Washington & Jefferson.

Her time was 2 minutes, 17.27 seconds. Grove City won the meet, 151-88.

County athletes help

Behrend to success

ERIE — Knoch graduate PJ Gourley scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in helping Penn State Behrend to an 80-65 men’s basketball win over Mt. Aloysius Saturday.

Gourley has scored 20 or more points six times this season. The Lions improved to 14-2 overall, 9-0 in AMCC play.

In other Behrend action, Butler graduate Cody Schnur had six kills in 10 attempts in the men’s volleyball team’s season-opening 3-0 loss to Marymount. Seneca Valley graduate Nicholas Hartman ran a personal-best time in the 60 meters at the Highlander Invitational indoor track and field meet. Butler graduate Reegan Malis rolled a 171 to help the women’s bowling team defeat Pitt-Bradford.
