Police say man OD'd on heroin while pushing son in stroller

Butler City Police arrested a man Sunday who they say overdosed on heroin and pushed a stroller carrying his child down an embankment.

A city officer was dispatched to East Jefferson Street around 4 p.m. to investigate a report of an intoxicated man pushing a stroller, according to a police news release.

The officer allegedly saw Charles Brookbank, 25, of Butler push a stroller over a 7-foot embankment and down a hill with a 5-year-old boy inside.

Brookbank was questioned and was allegedly unable to answer basic questions, according to police. He allegedly admitted to using one bag of heroin and a search of the stroller allegedly turned up two home-made marijuana pipes.

Police said several good Samaritans reported seeing Brookbank snort a bag of heroin.

He became non-responsive and was revived with Narcan after being detained, according to police.

Butler City Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service responded to check on the 5-year-old boy, who appeared to be unhurt. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and later released to his mother.

Brookbank was booked into Butler County Prison. Police were planning to charge him with two counts of endangering the welfare of children, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.
