Man arrested in city shooting; drugs were allegedly found

A Butler man is being held at the county prison without bail on charges he fired a handgun at a woman on Mitchell Avenue in the city.

Butler police said they also caught the suspect, Darnell Wynn, 41, with the equivalent of 10,000 stamp bags of suspected heroin.

Police on Monday arrested Wynn on felony charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and illegal possession of a firearm. He also is charged with other misdemeanor offenses.

Capt. Jim Hollobaugh said the shooting early Monday morning appeared to be domestic in nature, but police do not have a clear motive at this time.

After interviewing multiple witnesses, police accused Wynn of opening fire on a woman who he knew and who had been driving in the area of State Street. Police said Wynn was staying with a friend who lived on that street.

“He came behind the home in an unnamed alley. He started walking toward her car,” Hollobaugh said. “He shot at her. Then she got back in the vehicle, and he shot the vehicle as she drove away as well.”

The Butler County Emergency Services Unit assisted city police in conducting several search warrants, which turned up a pistol, two ounces of cocaine and about 180 grams of heroin, which is equal to about 10,000 stamp bags.

“We recovered the gun, which he's not licensed to carry,” Hollobaugh said.

Police said their investigation is continuing.
