Doretha B. Bowser

Doretha B. Bowser

Doretha B. Bowser, 91, of Chicora went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday.

Born Dec. 6, 1923, in Huey, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Nellie Wilson.

She was happily married for 44 years to the love of her life, the Rev. George B. Bowser, who preceded her in death Nov. 29, 1984.

Doretha worked various jobs throughout her lifetime, Cargo's Candy Co. and then she baby-sat in her later years.

Doretha's life was filled with other duties as a pastor's wife and for many years she fulfilled her spiritual gifts of service to the Lord in several cities within Pennsylvania with Church of God of Prophecy.

She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Karns City, where she held many positions within the church.

Doretha loved spending time with her family and friends and always gave encouragement to those in need. When she resided at the Chicora Commons, she took the opportunity and started a Bible study. She loved sharing God's word with everyone she could and lived the example of what God expects of us. Her hobbies included painting, sewing, gardening, cooking and baking and she had the patience to teach her grandchildren and great-grandchildren those traits.

Doretha's greatest calling in life was to her family and friends. She is survived by three daughters, and their husbands, Kay and Bob Hile of Chicora, Darlene and Bill Foley of Williamsburg, Va., and Sonya and Kurt Stang of Apollo. She was a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren, great-grandmother to 16 and great-great grandmother to 11. Doretha's mothering ways extended out to her nieces, nephews and beyond. She was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Harold, Carl and Kenneth Wilson; and one sister, Alma Aites. Doretha was the last survivor in the Wilson family.
