Edward E. Fink Jr.

Dr. Edward E. Fink Jr., 73, of Butler, passed away Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 22, 1947, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Edward E. Fink Sr. and Bernadette (Garvey) Fink.

Dr. Fink had lived in Philadelphia until 1965. He moved to Slippery Rock before coming to Butler in 1969. He received a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree from Slippery Rock University. He went on to earn his doctorate in educational administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Fink worked at the Butler Area School District from Sept. 2, 1969, until June 30, 2012. He touched the lives of many throughout his nearly 43 years with the district. He began his career at Butler as a junior high history teacher, and held many roles before ultimately becoming the superintendent of Butler Area School District.

He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

He had been president and vice president of the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation, was involved in the Kids' Weekend Backpack Program at Emily Brittain and Center Township schools, had been on the board of directors and executive committee for the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center, was a lector and CCD teacher at St. Peter, and also was a board member at the YMCA and the Butler County Symphony. He was a soccer coach for the Butler Soccer Association youth girls team.

Surviving are his daughters, Gretchen (Derek) Sapone of Virginia Beach, Va., and Megan (Chris Gollan) Fink of Washington, D.C.

He was “Pop” to Mia Sapone, Derek Sapone, Lena Gollan and Odette Gollan.

He is also survived by two sisters, Nancy Simolike of Philadelphia and Joan Puzycki of Bensalem, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jean “Peggy” Fink, whom he married March 27, 1971, and who passed away May 27, 2016; and his sister, Penny Fischer.

FINK — There will not be a public visitation for Dr. Edward E. Fink Jr., who died Monday, Dec. 20, 2021.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler.

He will be laid to rest with his wife, Peggy, in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum of Butler County Memorial Park. His family requests that people attending please wear a facial covering.

Arrangements were handled by Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
