Police searching for car chase suspect
Butler police are seeking the public’s help finding a suspect who led them on a brief chase through the city Thursday night.
The unknown suspect is described as a white male with long, dark hair. He was driving a maroon, four-door Chevrolet sedan, believed to be a Cruz model.
Police said they came upon the car at 9:41 p.m. at North Main and East Brady streets, where the driver stopped abruptly at a green light. The vehicle’s head lights were not on.
The officer flashed his lights to signal for the suspect to proceed through the intersection and to turn on his head lights. Instead, the suspect pulled away and still did not activate its lights, according to a police report.
Police began pursuing the car, which traveled through the E-Z Stop store parking lot at North Main and Penn streets, heading westbound on Penn Street.
The driver ran several stop signs before turning southbound on Broad Street at “a high rate of speed,” the report said. A short time later, the driver turned westbound onto Jefferson Street, where police lost sight of the car.
Anyone with information about the suspect or his car is asked to call police at 724-287-7743.
