Butler PoliceTuesday — Police charged Kevin Merritt, 22, of Butler with being more than three times over the legal limit for alcohol in a suspected drunken driving crash last month in the 200 block of South Chestnut Street.Merritt allegedly had far too much to drink about 10:10 p.m. Nov. 20 when his car struck the side of a pickup truck. He was arrested after failing one field sobriety test and refusing to do any more, police said.A blood test later showed his blood-alcohol was 0.254 percent, according to court documents. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to driving under the influence, Merritt is charged with driving without a license and careless driving.Tuesday — Daniel T. Gibson, 28, of Butler Township was charged stemming from an alleged shoplifting case Dec. 9 at the Pullman Square Kmart store. He is accused of swiping $185 in merchandise from the store.Police shortly after being called found Gibson on Fourth Avenue. A pat-down search turned up a stamp bag of suspected heroin, according to court documents. He was taken to the station where police found a scale, pill crusher, two empty bags of suspected heroin and other contraband in his back pack.Gibson is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and retail theft.Tuesday — Police charged Sarah C. Phillips, 21, in connection with a suspected heroin overdose Dec. 9 at her home on Cecelia Street.When police got there, medical crews were treating Phillips. A search of her purse, according to court documents, turned up 60 empty stamp bags of suspected heroin.Phillips is charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Butler Township PoliceThursday — Police charged Tiffany C. Booth, 29, of Lower Burrell, Westmoreland County, stemming from a 12:02 p.m. Dec. 3 traffic stop on Route 422. Booth was caught with drugs after being pulled over for speeding.She is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Police also cited her for speeding.8:13 p.m. Monday — Two hunting rifles were stolen from a detached garage in a break-in at a home in the 100 block of Saxonburg Road. The unknown burglar forced in a side window to get into the garage. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.10:22 p.m. Dec. 11 — Jennifer R. Shoaf, 34, of Chicora was arrested on a warrant following a traffic stop at the Sheetz store on New Castle Road. Shoaf, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was found with suspected heroin and narcotic painkillers, according to a police report.Shoaf was taken into custody on the warrant. Police said they also charged her with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Grove City Police1:15 p.m. Wednesday — Michael G. Weber, 24, of Grove City was hurt when a sport utility vehicle struck the bicycle he was riding on Chestnut Street at North Center Street. The SUV driver, Emily Robinson, 28, of Grove City, took Weber to Grove City Medical Center, where he was examined for unspecified right ankle and wrist injuries.Weber's condition was not known this morning. Police noted no citations were issued in the accident.11:45 a.m. Tuesday — Two Trek bicycles were turned in to police. The bikes— 20- and 16-inch models — were found at Grove City Memorial Park. The owner or owners can claim the bicycles at the police station, 337 E. Pine St.
Penn Township Police11:20 p.m. Saturday — Paul D. Hancheck Jr., 27, of Penn Township was arrested following a domestic dispute at his uncle's house in the 500 block of Crisswell Road. During the incident, according to court documents, he made a remark that someone was “gonna come down here and shoot.”Later, he returned to his home in the 200 block of Rockdale Road and allegedly fired a .44-caliber handgun behind his house. No one was injured in the shooting that apparently was not directed at anyone.Hancheck was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, and a summary count of public drunkenness. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail following arraignment.
Zelienople Police11:26 a.m. Sunday — Samantha Prowitt, 42, of Zelienople was arrested after she allegedly punched a police officer in the chest at her apartment in the 500 block of West New Castle Street.A borough officer called to the residence found Prowitt “extremely intoxicated.”Jackson Township police officer Zeke Reed later arrived to assist borough police. But while there, Prowitt punched Reed three times in his upper chest.The defendant was arraigned on a felony charge of aggravated assault and a summary charge of harassment. She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.
Butler County DetectivesDec. 9 — Mark A. Koebler, 40, and Denise L. Koebler, 38, both were found with hypodermic needles and empty stamp bags of suspected heroin, after county probation officers stopped at their home in the 300 block of Fairview Avenue for a compliance check.According to court documents, both suspects are under the supervision of the adult probation office. Detectives charged the Koeblers with possession of drug paraphernalia.State Police, Butler7:29 p.m. Wednesday — A 43-year-old Harrisville man, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Route 8, north of Branchton Road in Slippery Rock Township. Police said the man also faces a charge of possession of heroin.
State Police, Kittanning6:23 p.m. Wednesday — Sport utility vehicles driven by Jared M. McCombs, 16, and Vanessa M. Haneke, 25, both of Kittanning collided at Route 422 and Buffington Drive in Manor Township. Police said McCombs was cited for making an improper left turn.Wednesday — Police reported they are investigating a case of identity theft that targeted a 52-year-old woman from Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The unknown suspect on Aug. 18 used the woman's personal information to open an account with Time Warner Cable.4:32 p.m. Tuesday — An SUV driven by Jeremy R. Stewart, 34, of Zelienople struck a guardrail after swerving to avoid a rear-end collision with slowing traffic on Route 28 in Aspinwall, Allegheny County.Stewart's vehicle lost its rear, driver side wheel when it hit the guardrail and traveled back onto the road, hitting a car driven by Christopher M. Henry, 31, of Bethel Park. The loose tire, meanwhile, hit the back of a car driven by Lauren K. Arnold, 30, of Glenshaw.Police cited Stewart for driving too fast for conditions and driving a vehicle without inspection.6:01 a.m. Tuesday — One person was hurt in a two-vehicle wreck in East Franklin Township. The crash happened when a Peterbilt truck driven by Shane A. Craig, 26, of Dayton and a car driven by Kylee N. Scott, 20, of Kittanning collided on Route 28.Scott, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury. Police cited Craig for disregarding traffic lanes.Tuesday — A 17-year-old girl, who police did not identify, is suspected of stealing a handgun from a home on Glade Run Road in North Buffalo Township. The pistol — a black, SIG Sauer 2022 — was taken between 1 and 10 p.m.Police said their investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-543-2011.4:03 p.m. Monday — A Worthington teenager is suspected of stealing a pair of rings valued at a combined $7,400 from a 70-year-old woman's home at Edwards Estates in West Franklin Township. The 19-year-old suspect, who police did not identify, also took a ceramic coin bank worth about $50.The investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call police.3:20 p.m. Monday — Ronald J. Patterson, 17, of Templeton lost control of his pickup truck and struck an SUV on Sloan Hill Road in Rayburn Township. Police said Patterson was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

State Police, New Castle11:31 p.m. Nov. 21 — Samantha J. Miller, 21, of Gibsonia lost control of her car traveling around a bend on Plain Grove North Liberty Road, striking and damaging fence posts and electric wire in Plain Grove Township.Police cited Miller for driving too fast for conditions.
