Frank Mario Nichols, 85, of Cranberry Township, formerly of Warren, Pa., died Tuesday at the St. John Specialty Care Center, Mars.

Born Sept. 27, 1923, in Warren, he was the son of the late Frank Mario and Sarah M. (Contegulia) Nichols.

Mr. Nichols served with the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. He survived the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded two Purple Hearts and various other battle ribbons.

Mr. Nichols was a pilot and member of the Warren Aviation Club. He also was a member of St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church and an active member of the Warren Softball League.

Mr. Nichols retired from the Wildwood Country Club and the U.S. Post Office, where he was a mail service manager.

He is survived by two daughters, Theresa Troiano and her husband, Bob, of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Sarah Hogue and her husband, Ron, of Cranberry Township; a son, Frank Nichols and his wife, Linda, of Studio City, Calif.; a brother, Peter Nichols and his wife, Lois, of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Anna Jean Alaimo of New York, N.Y., and Nanci Arnold of Terrell, N.C.; six grandchildren, Tracy, Sean, Samuel, Timothy, Glisten and Sharla; and a great-granddaughter, Sonia Lili.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Nichols, who died Dec. 21, 2008; a daughter, Debbie Cagle; three brothers, Michael, Joseph and Raymond; and a sister, Julia.

<B>NICHOLS</B> — A memorial Mass for Frank Mario Nichols, who died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church, 2535 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township. Interment will be in the Dutilh United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cranberry Township.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite.
