Sweep lands three in prison
A federal drug sweep Wednesday in Butler County landed three suspects in the county prison on state charges.
Charged with felony and misdemeanor drug possession are Elijah J. Lane, 26, and Krystal M. Miller, 31, both of Butler; and Shameekha M. Mu-Min, 28, of Upper Darby, Delaware County.
The defendants were arrested during an FBI-led roundup of suspects charged in a federal indictment unsealed Wednesday. Lane, Miller and Mu-Min are not named in the indictment.
A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh indicted nine defendants June 9 on charges of trafficking fentanyl, heroin and cocaine. Those indicted were part of a network that supplied the drugs to Butler from Philadelphia, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
State police and the Butler County Drug Task Force assisted the FBI's Opiate Overdose Task Force in the investigation that led to the indictment.
Federal, state and county authorities conducted simultaneous raids around 6 a.m. Wednesday at different locations in Butler and Washington counties.
Lane was at his McClain Avenue home in Butler, where the FBI went with an arrest warrant for Damion Fray, 22, who's had addresses in Butler and Philadelphia, authorities said. Fray is named in the indictment.Lane was later arraigned on charges filed as part of a state police vice unit investigation last month, according to charging documents.He is accused of selling nine capsules of suspected heroin/fentanyl to an undercover officer May 21 at Eola Street and McClain Avenue in Butler.Lane was arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bond following arraignment.His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 6.Krystal M. Miller, 31, was found at her home on the 300 block of Virginia Avenue, where Qureem Overton, 39, also was living, authorities said. The FBI went there with a sealed search warrant and arrest warrants for Overton and Bobby Askew, 38, who has had addresses in Butler and Philadelphia.Overton and Askew are both named in the indictment.Miller was detained and a subsequent search of her bedroom turned up drug and other contraband, court documents said. Seized was a baggie containing suspected crack cocaine and a baggie with suspected methamphetamine.Also allegedly found in the bedroom was a baggie of suspected marijuana and an undisclosed amount of currency under the mattress.She was arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Following arraignment, she was placed in the Butler County Prison on $20,000 bond.Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 6.
Mu-Min was found in a room at the Holiday Inn on North Duffy Road in Butler Township, where the FBI executed an arrest warrant for Ricardo Glenn, 28, who's had addresses in Butler and Philadelphia. Glenn is named in the indictment.While in the motel room, court documents said, authorities noticed drug contraband in plain view.Officers took Mu-Min to the Butler police station, where she was searched. Hidden on her, state police said, were 13 pills containing a white powdery substance and six baggie corners containing suspected crack cocaine.A search warrant was obtained for the motel room where she was found. The search turned up three pills, empty capsules, plastic baggies and “bulk currency,” according to court documents.Mu-Min was arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bond.Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 2.
