Cora J. Stevick
Cora J. Stevick, 92, of Mars died Saturday afternoon at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.
Born May 25, 1923, in Forward Township, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jennie Baer Allen Williams Sr.
Cora attended Stamm Elementary School, a one room country school for eight years and graduated from Evans City High School in 1941.
Her first job was at Scotty's Restaurant followed by three years at Mine Safety. After World War II, she had several odd jobs, the last one being a seamstress at Basilon Cleaners until it was destroyed by a fire.
She wrote local news for the Butler Eagle for 30 years.
She was a member of the Mars United Presbyterian Church, the Mars VFW, the Mars American Legion Ladies Auxiliary's and the Mars Historical Society.
Surviving are two sons, William L. Stevick of Lodi, N.J., and Larry Stevick of Mars; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter V. Stevick, who she married June 12, 1947, and who died Feb. 2, 1994; and her siblings, James and Paul Allen, Emma McClelland, Margaret Carlson, Ola Allen, Grace Turner, Hazel Nicklas, Charles Williams Jr. and John Williams.
She was the last surviving member of her family of 10.
