Gwendell F. 'Corky' McDonald
Gwendell F. “Corky” McDonald, died Tuesday on his 85th birthday at Paramount Senior Living in Adams Township.
Born on Dec. 24, 1928, he was the son of Nelson L. and Cleola McCandless McDonald.
Corky had been a truck driver for Purvis Brothers Inc. in Mars for 49 years. He drove the first tractor trailer that it owned and at 38 years into his career he had logged three million miles and 100 million gallons of gasoline delivered accident free.
He was a member of the Mars United Presbyterian Church and the Mars Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the Mars VFW Post 7505 and the Mars American Legion.
Surviving are his daughter, Gwen Prokovich and her husband, Jeffrey, of Ellwood City; his son, Steven McDonald and his wife, Linda, of Mars; his grandchildren, Steven Jr., Jody Rowan and her husband, Justin, and Morgan and Maggie Prokovich; his great-grandson, Jack Rowan; his sister, Marlene Edwards of Mars; his brother-in-law, Harvey Kiefer of Butler; his sister-in-law, Elaine McConnell of Mars; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Jane Kiefer McDonald, who he married on Nov. 1, 1949, and who died on Oct. 6, 1996, and his son, Jeffrey McDonald.
MCDONALD — The friends of Gwendell F. “Corky” McDonald, who died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Nathan Esser, pastor of the Mars United Presbyterian Church officiating.
