Maxine Mae Shultz

Maxine Mae Shultz, 82, of New Sewickley Township formerly of Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday at UPMC Cranberry Place.

Born Feb. 22, 1935, in Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Josephine V. Slaugenhaupt Guthrie.

Maxine was a 1955 graduate of East Brady High School where she met her late husband, Miles R. “Bob” Shultz.

Maxine was a retired employee of the Freedom Area School District where she spent 22 years serving in several positions at the Big Knob Elementary School.

Maxine was also a member of the New Sewickley Presbyterian Church and St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Chicora. She had a strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and loved spending time with her family and friends at the family's farm in New Sewickley Township, where she and Bob raised five children and eight grandchildren. She and Bob also enjoyed their time spent at the family's cabin in Tionesta and camping in Pymatuning.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at UPMC Cranberry Place.

She is survived by her five children, Robert D. Shultz Sr. of New Sewickley Township, Laurie A. Johnston of New Sewickley Township, Patty J. (Robert) Himelsbaugh of Rochester, Richard W. Shultz of Rochester Township, and Ronald D. (Barbara) Shultz Sr. of New Sewickley Township; eight grandchildren, Matthew D. (Natalie) Johnston of New Sewickley Township, Jennifer N. (Nicholas) Thorn of Darlington, Robert D. Shultz Jr. of New Sewickley Township, Stephanie A. Shultz of Beaver Falls with whom she shared a birthday, Jacob A. Himelsbaugh of Rochester, Samantha M. Shultz of Aliquippa, Ronald D. Shultz Jr. of New Sewickley Township, and Haley J. Himelsbaugh of Rochester; eight great-grandchildren, Hunter, Archer, Cooper, Madilynn, Damian, Willow, Rosella, and Jack; a brother, John A. (Helen) Guthrie of Boardman, Ohio,; three sisters, Oma B. Lynch of Greenville (twin sister), Marilyn (Jim) Cumberland of Ford City, and Eileen (Lon) Hovis of Butler; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie J. Heilman of Florida and Ella I. “Nine” Kepple of Leechburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Miles R. “Bob” Shultz; and a brother, Darle D. Guthrie.

SHULTZ — Friends of Maxine Mae Shultz, who died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Additional visitation will be held at 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon Tuesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 2167 State Route 268, Chicora.Maxine will be laid to rest at the Oak Grove Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made in Maxine's honor to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Pittsburgh, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E 201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
