Cranberry hurt by Pittsburgh bus cuts
PITTSBURGH — Bus service available to Cranberry Township residents heading to Pittsburgh will be down to just one link by March 27.
The 13K Marshall Express route from the Bladerunners Park-N-Ride that is used by most Cranberry riders will be eliminated by that date along with the next nearby route, the 13J Franklin Park Express.
These cuts are part of the action taken by the Port Authority of Allegheny County board on Wednesday when it approved a 15 percent overall transit cut that eliminates 180 jobs and 29 routes.
All the cuts become effective March 27.
With the 13K bus cut now official, the Cranberry area will have only one public transportation link to downtown Pittsburgh.
That will be at the Route 528 park and ride lot, which is full early most mornings. That bus stop is operated by the New Castle Area Transit Authority.
The cuts were enacted because the port authority has a $47 million budget deficit this year.
