Toni-Renee Anderson
It is with great sadness that the family of Toni-Renee “TR” (Putt) Anderson Esq. announces the passing of their beloved, beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and daughter. She was taken from us far too soon on Dec. 23, 2021, and no words can express the crushing loss we feel. The world lost a wonderful woman — an absolute light.
Toni was known as TR to some, as Mom or NonNon to family, and as friend to all.
The first female assistant district attorney for Cambria County, where she pioneered the use of in-camera testimony for the child victims she so adamantly protected; solicitor for numerous municipalities and authorities, where she served outstandingly for more than 20 years; court administrator, unemployment compensation referee, adjunct instructor of legal studies at Mount Aloysius College, Social Security appeals attorney, Orphan's Court hearing master, judicial law clerk, chairman of the county's planning commission and the county bar association's arbitration panels and disciplinary board; active member of the county's bar association and former officer of the young lawyers division, where she took a group of attorneys to be sworn in by the United States Supreme Court (and was admitted herself); enthusiastic member of the county's historical society; and a book reviewer for Johnstown Magazine.
Her life was filled with accomplishments – and trials — most cannot imagine. She considered her greatest achievement and ultimate purpose to be raising and growing her adoring family. A constant source of love, happiness, devotion, wisdom, support, fun and encouragement, her commitment to others was unmatched. Never missing a concert, practice, game, recital or even a moment, she was an actual “Angel on Earth.”
She married the love of her life, Mark E. Anderson, on Aug. 2, 1986 — the pair were soulmates. Together, they raised their “darling girl,” Stephenie, and beloved cat, Orly (among other pets), and, more recently, enjoyed daily visits with their darling grandson, Teddy (and of course, their much-loved son-in-law, John).
Toni had many hobbies and was good at all of them, especially art and water pastels. She was her daughter's closest confidant, providing wise advice and counsel in all parts of life, tackling challenges head-on. A lover (and undefeated winner) of Pictionary in Anderson women v. Anderson men games, an avid reader, pianist and guitarist, world traveler, movie aficionado, and unapologetic fan of “Indiana Jones,” “Man from Uncle,” “The Matrix,” “My Cousin Vinny,” “The Blind Side,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” and “Legally Blonde.” She loved being “sisters” with her daughter in the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority.
Born in Johnstown, Pa., and raised in Hastings and Ebensburg, Pa., Toni was the daughter of Rita (Bellavia) Hnatkovich and the late Stephen Hnatkovich.
She was a graduate of Bishop Carroll High School, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pittsburgh Law School.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Edward Anderson; her daughter, Stephenie Grace Anderson Scialabba; her son-in-law, John Carlton Scialabba; her grandson, Theodore Stephen Scialabba; her mother, Rita Mae Hnatkovich; and many, many brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Stephen Hnatkovich; her in-laws, John and Evelyn Anderson; her brother-in-law, Michael Anderson; and her cousin, Eric Glass.
She was loved wholeheartedly, and was her daughter's best friend, her husband's soulmate, grandson's favorite, son-in-law's biggest fan, and mother's pride and joy, and she will be dearly missed.
