Blown transformer knocks out power downtown

A transformer blew at the corner of Washington and West Cunningham streets, causing West Penn Power and the city police and fire departments to be dispatched.

BUTLER -- Power was restored to more than 100 customers in downtown Butler after a 30 minute outage that shut down several traffic lights on Main Street and West Cunningham Street.

A transformer blew at the corner of Washington and West Cunningham streets, causing West Penn Power and the city police and fire departments to be dispatched.

Between 100 and 500 customers were affected by the outage which was resolved around 9 p.m., according to the West Penn Power website.
