The Butler School District has used all its designated make-up snow days.

The district closed twice this week for extreme cold on Wednesday and Thursday. In a letter to parents, Superintendent Brian White explained that faculty agreed to use an Act 80, or in-service day, for one of the two closures.

The others will need to be made up. Students will attend classes on April 18 to make up for it.

The district previously closed in November after the month's severe ice storm caused power outages in school buildings. Class will be in session on Feb. 18 and April 23 for those two days.

Students not wanting to attend class after June 5, the planned last day of school, still have one last hope — state bureaucracy. After the storm, White sent a letter to the Pennsylvania Department of Education asking for emergency waivers for the two missed days in November. The state requires students to be in session 180 days each year.

White said during Monday's school board meeting that he has heard that state workers tend to respond to those requests in March.
