Pauline Rettig

Pauline N. Rettig, 69, of Stein Road, Chicora, went to be with the Lord early Thursday morning at her home.

Pauline was born on Dec. 21, 1944, in Lower Burrell, Westmoreland County. She was the daughter of the late George Austin and Addaline Blanche Hawkins Gilliam.

She was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora.

Mrs. Rettig had a love for animals and especially enjoyed the company of her five cats. She was a devout Christian and an avid reader, and enjoyed spending time in her home’s library.

She was a graduate of Butler County Community College with a degree in licensed practical nursing and was employed for 24 years at the VA Butler Healthcare Medical Center.

She is survived by her husband, Larry J. Rettig, who she married on July 3, 1986, at the St. Mark Lutheran Church in Butler. Also surviving are her three sons, Thomas W. Rodgers and his wife, Deborah, of Bruin, Christopher R. Rodgers and his wife, Dr. Roseanne Rodgers, of Finksburg, Md., and John J. Rodgers and his wife, Colleen, of Fenelton; her stepson, David J. Rettig and his wife, Cathy, of West Sunbury; her 11 grandchildren, Tyler and Megan Rodgers, Jeffrey and Craig Rodgers, Nicholas, Elaina and Alexa Rodgers, Chase Rodgers, Karissa Rodgers and Aiden Christian Rodgers-Ace, and her stepgrandson, William “Billy” Hutchison; her great-granddaughter, Liana Marie Rodgers; her two sisters, Mary Burns of Lower Burrell and Della Kealey and her husband, Don, of Saltsburg; her four brothers-in-law, Gary Rettig of Cabot, Tim Rettig and his wife, Annie, of Meridian, Thomas Rettig of Butler and Daniel Rettig of East Butler; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Rodgers, who died on Nov. 11, 1995; her niece, Persilla Young, who died on Dec. 8, 2010; her four sisters, Katherine “Kit,” Peggy, Flossie and Martha; as well as a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Rettig— The friends of Pauline N. Rettig, who passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora.Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. to services at 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora, with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Gruenwald Cemetery, Summit Township.Memorial contributions in Mrs. Rettig's name may be made to Katie's Kitchen, c/o St. Mark Lutheran Church, 201 W.
