2-car crash sends 1 driver to hospital

DONEGAL TWP — An ice-covered driveway may have caused a two-car crash this morning on Route 68 that landed one of the drivers in a Pittsburgh hospital with a head injury, authorities said.

The road was closed for about 30 minutes after the wreck shortly before 9:25 a.m. State police are investigating but an accident report was not immediately available.

Rescuers said a man who lives in the 1200 block of Route 68, also known as Chicora Road, was pulling out of his driveway and slid on ice into traffic.

A car headed west struck the man’s car on the driver’s side. The man had moderate injuries but he remained conscious while a Chicora Ambulance crew tended to him.

The other driver was not hurt.

The injured man was taken to nearby Catalpa Road where a medical helicopter landed before flying him to Allegheny General Hospital. His condition was not known.
