John R. Corton

Corton

John R. Corton, 83, passed away Friday at his home in South Fayette, Allegheny County.

He was born Sept. 2, 1926, the only son of the late Barnabus and Dorothy Corton. He was the beloved husband of Beatrice (Datum) Corton, who he married Oct. 4, 1952.

He was the loving father of Rick (Kathy) Corton, Cathy Corton, Linda (Ron) Vodenichar, Jamie (Jennifer) Corton, Patti (Jim) Balistreri, Bob (Mary) Corton, Tom Corton, and Mary Alice Corton.

He was PapPap to 12 grandchildren, Sherri Farias, Stephanie Eggar, Adrianne Thompson, KayLeigh Vodenichar, Jessica Corton, Hailey Corton, Joseph Balistreri, David Balistreri, Bobby Corton, Ben Corton, Hannah Corton and Grace Corton and to seven great-grandchildren, Jack and Simon Farias, Renee, Alex and Gabi Eggar, Lucy and Isaiah Thompson.

He also is survived by a sister, Delores Rocco.

Jack, as he was known to all his friends, was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.

He earned his electrical engineering degree by attending night classes for 10 years at Carnegie Tech while working full-time at Bell Telephone. He retired from Bell as a supervising engineer.

He volunteered for many years with Junior Achievement, was a past president of the Telephone Pioneers organization, served on the board of directors for Christmas in April at Kane Hospital, and served with Lifeline at St. Clair Hospital. He was presented a Paul Harris Fellowship Award by the Rotary Club of Butler this spring.

His hobbies included golfing, playing cars, traveling and visiting with his family.

<B>CORTON</B> — Friends and family of John R. Corton, who died Friday, June 18, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the <B>Beinhauers Funeral Home</B>, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, Pa. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
